Keynote: Hearing the Suicidal Patient's Emotional Pain: The implications for practice.
Dr Christine Dunkley introduces her research into how clients in mental health services perceive whether their emotional pain is heard or not, and practical things that clinicians can do (and stop doing) to facilitate a sense of being heard. She will also describes how the phenomenon of emotional pain occurs across emotions, and how shifting focus to the peak-pain experience can help in behavioural interventions.

Using the SPACE framework in Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Coaching to tackle, stress, anxiety and depression.
‘SPACE’ is a comprehensive psychological model that can be used within rational emotive cognitive behavioural therapy, coaching, stress and anxiety management to aid assessment, explain the cognitive model to the client, and assist in the development of a therapeutic, coaching or training programme. It has been used with clinical disorders including depression.

Panel discussion
Overcoming the challenges of using REBT and CBT in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.
This interactive session will consider the challenges and also discuss solutions of REBT and CBT practice within an IAPT service. Questions will also be taken from the audience.

This skills workshop will lead on from the paper and give delegates the opportunity to use SPACE in pairwork exercises.

2. Enhancing resilience and wellbeing: A Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Approach.
In this workshop resilience and wellbeing will be discussed. Targeting Resilience Undermining Thoughts (RUTs) and the development of Resilience Enhancing Thoughts (RETs) will be covered. Delegates will be able to practise in pairwork the use of a 5 column form relating to resilience.

Conference Speaker & Discussants' Biographies
Denise Christy MSc MAREBT Accred is the Accreditation Director of the AREBT. She has an MSc in REBT from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BACP Accredited Diploma in Counselling. She has a special interest in working with postnatal depression and with parents suffering from stress. Before moving into private practice, she worked for over 10 years in the NHS, first a as a counsellor in primary care and later as the Joint Clinical Lead of a South London IAPT service. She has experience of joint working with Children's Centres to help increase access to cognitive behavioural therapy and counselling for parents of young children.
Edelweiss Collings MSc MAREBT Accred is Chair of the Association for Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. She is an accredited REBT Therapist and has an MSc in REBT from Goldsmiths, University of London. She is a member of the BABCP London Branch Committee.
Dr Christine Dunkley DClinP FSfDBT is a consultant psychotherapist with over 20 years experience in the NHS. She has published over 20 works, including books, chapters, and articles in international journals. She is a consultant trainer with the British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy training team, and has taught Mindfulness and DBT in the UK, Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, France and New Zealand. She is a Fellow of the Society for Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and was the Founder Chair.
Nick Edgerton MSc CPsychol MAREBT Accred is a Chartered Psychologist and accredited AREBT therapist. Nick developed the cognitive-behavioural SPACE model of therapy and coaching. He has published articles and chapters on the SPACE model. He has also written on stress management and counselling.
Professor Stephen Palmer PhD CPsychol FAREBT is Professor of Practice at the Wales Institute for Work Based Learning, University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He is the Founder Director of the Centre for Stress Management. He is a Chartered Psychologist, BABCP Accredited CBT, AREBT Accredited Therapist and Supervisor, UKCP Accredited Psychotherapist, and International Society for Coaching Psychology Accredited Coaching Psychologist and Supervisor. He is Vice Chair and Fellow of AREBT and Founder Co-Chair of the BABCP London Branch.
Dr Siobhain O'Riordan PhD CPsychol is a Course Co-Director on the programmes at the Centre for Stress Management. She supervises doctoral students applying the cognitive behavioural approach within their research at City, University of London. She is a Chartered Psychologist, and International Society for Coaching Psychology Accredited Coaching Psychologist and Supervisor. She is Emeritus Editor of the International Journal of Health Promotion & Education and Co-editor of the European Journal of Counselling, Theory, Research and Practice. She is Founder Chair of the International Society for Coaching Psychology.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
From Euston, King’s Cross or St. Pancras
Northern Line towards Morden to Old Street (underground), or bus 205 (from Euston & King’s Cross) or 214 (from King’s Cross)

All stations are less than ten minutes' walk.
Liverpool Street: Broadgate exit to Eldon Street/South Place, then right into Finsbury Pavement/City Road.
Moorgate: follow the signs for Moorgate/Finsbury Square.
Old Street: exit 4, City Road south (east side) leading to Finsbury Square.
Buses
Numbers 21, 43, 76, 141, 205, 214 and 271 all stop on City Road/Epworth Street.

Car parking
Tabernacle Street is a one-way street and should be approached from the Finsbury Square end. NCP car parks are located in Finsbury Square (hourly charge) and Clere Street (half-day or day rate only).
